The opt-in member directory — how members find one another in your church.
What is the member directory?
The directory is a list, inside the member portal, of the people in your church who chose to be listed. Members reach it from Directory in the portal navigation (web) or from the member home (mobile), and can open any listed member's profile.
The directory is one of the community modules. If you turn Directory off on the admin Community page, it disappears for every member — its navigation entry and pages are removed.
Who appears in the directory?
Only members who opted in. Every member is unlisted by default; a member appears only after they turn on "List me in the church directory" from their own Household & privacy settings. There is no way for an admin to list a member who has not opted in — being listed is the member's choice.
What does a profile show?
A member's profile shows their name and photo, plus — for each of their email, phone number and household — only the fields that member chose to share. A member who opted into the directory but did not share their phone number simply shows no phone number; the field is never sent to other members' devices.
Children's protected information (allergies, medical notes, authorized pickup) is never shown in the directory or on any profile.
How does a member get listed or change what they share?
From the member portal, under Household & privacy, the member turns on "List me in the church directory" and then chooses, field by field, whether to show their email, phone number, address, birthday, and household. (A shared birthday shows as a month and day only — the birth year is never sent to other members.) They can change this at any time, and turning the listing off removes them from the directory immediately.
How do members report a profile?
Every profile (other than the member's own) has a Report profile action, on web and mobile. A member opens it, writes a short reason, and the report goes to church admins for review. Reports are private. Admins handle reports in the Community → Moderation queue — see Moderation.
What can admins see?
This page governs the member-to-member directory only. Admins continue to see every member — listed or not — through the admin Directory hub; the directory opt-in does not hide anyone from church administration.
