Joining and taking part in groups
How members find and join their church's small groups — open groups you join in one tap, closed groups you request, the discussion feed where you post, reply, and share photos, your groups across all your churches, and leaving a group. The same on web and the mobile app.
Groups are the smaller circles inside a church — a Bible study, the worship team, a young-adults ministry, a prayer team. Each one has its own little discussion feed where you post, reply, and share the odd photo with the others in it. Your church's admins create the groups; you join the ones that are for you. Everything here works the same on the web and in the mobile app.
Finding groups
Open a church's Groups and you'll see two sections:
- My groups — the groups you're already in.
- Discover — other groups in that church you can join.
A search box filters by name as you type. Discover only shows groups the church has chosen to list, so it's a tidy menu of what's open to you — not every group exists here, and that's by design.
Joining a group
How you join depends on the group:
- Open groups — tap Join and you're in immediately. You can read and post right away.
- Closed groups — tap Request to join. The button changes to Requested while a church admin reviews it; once they approve, the group moves into your My groups. Changed your mind before they've acted? Tap again to cancel the request.
You don't need an invitation to join an open group or to ask to join a listed closed one — just tap.
The group feed
Inside a group, the feed is where the group talks:
- Post a short message to everyone in the group. You can attach one photo to a post if you like — or just send a photo on its own.
- Reply to anyone's post. Replies are a single level deep, so conversations stay easy to follow rather than branching into long threads.
- Edit or delete your own posts anytime. (You can always remove what you wrote; your church's admins can also remove posts if something doesn't belong.)
For a closed group, the feed is members-only — only people in the group can read it. Open groups are more relaxed, so others in your church can see the conversation.
On your phone
In the Psalmly mobile app it's the same: open a church, tap the Groups tab, and you'll find the same My groups and Discover sections. Tap into a group to read and post, attach a photo straight from your camera roll, and pull down to refresh to pull in the latest posts.
Your groups across all your churches
If you belong to more than one church, you don't have to hop between them to keep track. Your personal dashboard has a My groups section that gathers the groups from all your churches in one place, each tagged with the church it belongs to. Tap any of them to jump straight into that group's feed.
Leaving a group
If a group isn't for you anymore, open it and choose Leave (you'll get a quick confirmation first). You'll stop seeing its feed, and it drops out of your My groups. You can always join an open group again later, or request a closed one again.
Announcements sent to your group
Group feeds are for the group's own conversation. When a church has news specifically for one group, an admin sends it as an announcement to that group — so you'll get it by email and in the app, right alongside your church-wide announcements. For where those show up, see Announcements you receive.
